Helping Kids Meet Their Best Friend
We believe it is our responsibility to nurture and to teach children about God’s love in a safe and loving environment. Children are encouraged to attend worship at John Wesley UMC> During the service, we have a dedicated Children’s Sermon where the kids are invited to come to the front of the church for a short lesson. After the Children's Sermon, 4 and 5 year old children are encouraged to go to Children's Church down the hall, while all other children remain with their parents in the sanctuary. The Nursery available for all worship services.
Children’s Ministries at John Wesley UMC
John Wesley UMC’s Music Ministries offers a variety of children’s choirs that sing during morning worship and special services. All practices takes place at Wednesday Night Out from September until May.

Cherub Choir – These are the youngest vocalists with everyone being just three years old.

Wesley Choristers – This choir is made up of four year olds through 1st grade.

Covenant Singers – This choir is for elementary aged children, 2nd through 5th grade.

Choir
Vacation Bible School is open to all children, ages 4 through 5th grade. VBS is offered for one week during the summer, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until noon, and features a worship service led by the participants at the end of the week.

Vacation Bible School
Summer Sports Camp is open to all children games 4 through 8th grade. Sports Camp is offered for one week during the summer, Monday through Thursday from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm at a local park in the West Ashley community. Summer Sports Camp is coordinated and coached by members of John Wesley UMC who are also local athletic coaches in the Charleston area. We hope to see you on the fields.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt
John Wesley UMC offers Sunday School classes for every age level, preschool and elementary, all year round! Sunday School is offered every Sunday from 9:45 until 10:45.

Children’s Sunday School
Our Children's Church is a fun and safe environment where children, ages 4 and 5 years old, can learn about God's love in a way that is easy for them to understand. We believe in partnering with parents to help children build a strong foundation of faith through age-appropriate lessons, worship, and fun activities. 4 and 5 year old children are invited to attend Children's Church following the Children's Sermon in Room 111 during both the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services.

Children’s Church
Children’s Church 2 is a 6 week program for first graders and younger elementary students during our morning worship services. The children will leave the sanctuary after the Children’s Sermon, same as the 4 & 5 year olds; however, the Children’s Church 2 children will go a separate room for a different program called Touch the Water, Taste the Bread, which explains the sacraments of Baptism and Communion. At the completion of the six weeks, the children take communion together during the Sunday School hour. Registration for Children’s Church 2 begins in the fall.

Children’s Church 2
Each fall we look forward to presenting the 3rd graders in our congregation a Bible from their church. Third Grade Bible Presentation is followed by 6 weeks of a special Sunday School class for our 3rd graders, teaching them to use their new Bibles.

Third Grade Bible Presentation
After receiving their Bibles during the Third Grade Bible Presentations during worship, the 3rd graders are invited to participate in a special Sunday School class that will meet for a six week journey through the Bible. The class is designed to help the 3rd graders learn to discover and use their new Bibles.

Children in grades 1 – 5 have the opportunity to serve in worship at each service on Sunday mornings.

Bible Bearers
The nursery at John Wesley UMC is a safe and loving environment for children while their parents worship and serve in the ministries of the church. Children are our special responsibility, entrusted to our care by God. It is the mission of our Children’s Ministries staff to provide a place where young children are LOVED, NURTURED< and PRAYED for. The nursery provides an introduction to the church home for infants, toddlers, two’s and three’s. Here, they learn from loving caregivers what Jesus taught the children: God loves you!

JWUMC Nursery
Following the example of Jesus Christ, John Wesley UMC believes that faith is best lived out through service to others. Inspired by John Wesley's call to "do all the good you can," our mission and outreach ministries work to heal the sick, feed the hungry, care for the stranger, and seek justice for all. Likewise, Children's Ministries provides opportunities for the children to engage in missions and outreach in the local community and beyond. Annually, the children participate in a Thanksgiving Food Drive as well as The Easter Basket Project. Additionally, funds accepted during the Summer Sports Camp provide opportunities for the children to participate in missions and outreach needs in the local community.
