SAFE SANCTUARIES  

At JWUMC we take our responsibility to children seriously. In 2007, our Children’s Council has developed and had adopted a Child Protection Policy for our church. This policy will includes Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures for our Nursery, our ECC, our Sunday School Programs, VBS and KWTP and all other aspects of Children’s Ministries. And whereas all of our paid staff in Children’s Ministries has been required to have a background check and training, our new initiative will also extend those requirements to our volunteers in Children’s Ministries as well. In addition, we will ask all paid staff and volunteers to participate in a Stewards of Children training session, and we sponsor several training events during the year to enable our staff and volunteers to be certified in Stewards of Children program offered through Darkness to Light ( www.darkness2light.org  ).

This has been a large undertaking in 2007, but one that we feel is absolutely necessary and in the best interest of our children and our church.

As of September 1, ALL volunteers and employees in Children’s and Youth Ministries at JWUMC (and anyone interested in volunteering in the future) are required to fill out the paperwork for a background check and to have taken or register to take the Stewards of Children training.
