This program, formerly known as Mother's Morning Out and the
Early Childhood Education Center, is a weekday
program designed for children ages 2 months to 4 years. It operates from
9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. every weekday. The program is guided by a board of
directors, has an on-site director, and
offers supervised play time, music, story times, and arts and crafts, all
led by caring Christian professionals. Call 766-3396 for more information.
Crisis Ministries
Our church provides volunteers to cook meals and spend the night at the
Crisis Ministries Meeting Street shelter six designated Saturdays during
the year. The first group of volunteers shop and prepare supper and
breakfast for about one hundred men. The overnight group (three or four
volunteers) arrives about 7:00 p.m. to help serve supper. They also serve
breakfast the following morning.
Food Bags
Our church receives names of impoverished families from groups such as the
Mennonites and Our Lady of Mercy Outreach. Four or five times per year 25
grocery bags are distributed to church members during the worship service.
Each bag includes a description of the needy person or family. The bags
are filled with nonperishable food, then returned the following Sunday.
They are delivered to the families by other volunteers.
Mitten Tree
At Christmas time the church has an active "Mitten Tree" to
collect mittens, gloves, socks, etc. for needy children. These items, and
other clothing, are delivered with nonperishable food items collected as
part of the "Food Bag" effort mentioned above.
Meals on Wheels
Volunteers from our church participate in the Wednesday Meals on Wheels
program coordinated through Holy Comforter Lutheran Church.
Blood Pressure Clinic
Every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. September through May.
A nurse is
available at the church to take blood pressure readings.
In addition to these volunteer efforts, we also support a variety of local
and regional missions through our church budget.
