John Wesley United Methodist Church is organized a little differently than
a traditional Methodist Church. If you are familiar with Methodist structure,
you might remember the many many committees, each of which dealt in a very
focused way on a specific element of ministry. John Wesley has created three
large areas of ministry along the lines of our "Statement of
Purpose":
The
purpose of John Wesley United Methodist Church is to be a community for
spiritual growth, committed as disciples of Christ, to proclaim the Gospel and
to reach out to others with God's Love.
These work areas allow us to focus more effectively on our purpose for being a
congregation.
Outreach Ministries
The functions within this ministry include our efforts to
reach out to all God's children as we become the "hands of Jesus" in
this world. Programs include such things as the Habitat for Humanity, Homeless Shelter,
Meals on Wheels, The Day School,
Red Cross Blood Drives, church transportation, and focusing on visitors to
John Wesley.
Witness Ministries
Within this ministry are such functions as Spiritual
Development, Membership Care, Communications, Greeters, Prayer Groups, Special
Retreats, Newsletter, Leisure Ministries, and Prison Ministries.
Nurturing Ministries
These functions include such things as Education, Worship,
Stewardship, Sunday School, UMYF, Methodist Women, Methodist Men, Revivals,
Prayer and Share, Stephen Ministry,
and the Music Program.
Each of these three ministries is an area where anyone can participate, and
people can be active in multiple areas. God needs you to be an active
participant in His ministry!
