Education is a vital part of someone's Christian walk, and John Wesley has
numerous opportunities to learn how God enters into lives and works with
us and for us. For our children and youth, we offer
a full program. For our Adults, we have 9
groups that meet every week so there is sure to be a group "just for
you." Read through the list below and you'll
find several groups to visit.
If you are looking for a church home, this is a great place to meet us on
a personal small-group level! Visit many classes and we know you'll want
to make John Wesley your church home.

Adult Sunday School Classes
John Wesley UMC is very proud of its Adult Sunday School Classes
where we learn, serve, and socialize together. Please
join us at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday.

Facility Maps
Alpha Class
Alpha means beginning. Members of our class are beginning new life
experiences, new relationships, new families. We have married and
singles, those with children and those without. We offer a home to
the college students of the congregation and range in age to our
early 30’s. We are currently following the lectionary for our
lessons. We meet in a casual atmosphere complete with laughter.
Meets in Room 211.
Mulherin Class
We are a class of singles and couples in our 30’s & 40’s. We have
lots of children from newborn to college-bound. We enjoy
Bible-based lessons each week as well as monthly mission projects
and socials. We love spending time together and participating in
all that JWUMC has to offer. We would love for you to be a part of
our class. Meets in Room 217, 219.
Thackston Class
Our class consists of mostly married couples ages ranging from
mid-30’s to almost 50! We have children ranging from infants to
late teens. A team of 6 class members serve as teachers covering
from Biblically-based to contemporary issues. We have a casual
atmosphere & enjoy lively discussions. We have socials for the
entire family , just adults, just men, & just ladies. We hold
annual fundraisers. We welcome visitors and new member to join us!
Meets in Room 201.
Chi Rho Class
The name Chi Rho is the Christian monogram & symbol formed from the
first 2 letters X and P of the Greek word for Christ—called also
Christogram. The Chi Rho Class has been around for 25+ years. Our
members range in age from 40-60. We enjoy a weekly attendance of
40-50 members. Gifted members volunteer to teach on a rotating
basis and we enjoy monthly social times together. Sometimes these
gatherings are special projects or fundraising events and often
they’re just for fun. The class favorites are kayak trips, oyster
roasts and our Christmas social. Our class is a diverse group who
form a Christian family & strongly support each other and JWUMC. We
enjoy visitors and welcome new members. Meets in Room 209.
Walter Johnson Class
At our age, the little children in our families are all ‘grand,’
Outreach mission projects & parties are regularly planned.
Please join for caring fellowship & peer-led lessons on God, his
Son, &
the Holy Land
On Christ the solid rock we stand,
all other ground is sinking sand.
Meets in Room 202.
Lupo Class
We are generally in the 50+ age bracket & include couples &
singles. We have lessons based heavily on the International Lesson
Series. Emphasis is placed on Christian outreach to local selected
charity organizations & to individuals & families often overlooked
by other benevolent groups. We enjoy a social / business meeting
each month. Meets in Room 203.
Reba Shumaker Class
Our class is a small fun-loving group of seniors. In addition to
our weekly lessons, we have 4 projects a year & class socials.
Meets in Room 213.
Wesley Fellowship Class
The Wesley Fellowship Class is just what the name
implies—fellowship. Although we started out years ago as the Young
Adult Class, we are more the Young at Heart Class now. We are
always looking for new members. We love to sing and have wonderful
teachers. Meets in Room 215.
Thelma Altman Class
We are a small class of older adults. We use the Adult Bible
Studies for our lessons & have several gifted teachers on a rotating
basis. We are a loving, caring, & fun-loving class. We welcome
visitors anytime. Meets in Room 109.
