On Sunday, July 1, Kathy Priest Hudson makes her first appearance with John Wesley UMC as a newly ordained elder (ordained at Annual Conference in June 2012) under appointment as the associate pastor. As a means of introduction to the congregation as a whole she will preach in all three services that Sunday.
She leaves behind four years as minister of Grace UMC in Lancaster, SC. It's been a long road to get here. Kathy grew up in Mooresville, NC, earned her undergraduate degree from Columbia College in 1999, and her Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2002. Her ministry experiences include six years as staff member of Oak Grove UMC in Decatur, GA and four years as solo pastor of Grace UMC.
While with Oak Grove her responsibilities included being the Executive Assistant to the Senior Minister and Worship Coordinator for two traditional and one contemporary service each week. She was also involved in crises and reconciliation ministries.
Decatur is a large city (part of the Atlanta metro area) and Oak Grove is a large church; conversely Lancaster is a smallish city and Grace is a smallish church which exists as a Mill Hill legacy church.
Kathy says, "As I land in Charleston?... Wow, I hope to be fruitful in ministry - to allow God to move through me and in me. I am excited to be coming to Charleston! I look forward to the work I will do at John Wesley, working with the staff and getting to know everyone. I hope to embrace and to be embraced by as one of the Family. I hope we can enjoy life in God, celebrate, worship and work for God's kingdom to reign here on earth --- it's the dream, the vision .What I want to say to my new family is that I may not be the best preacher, best teacher, or greatest theological mind you will ever encounter, but I WILL love you. You can count on that."
Kathy is the mother of a pair of 24 year old twins, Palmer and Matthew. One lives in Atlanta and the other in Lancaster.
We welcome her to John Wesley UMC with open arms. Make it a point to greet her, meet her, and to spend some time with her in the near future. Also please make plans to be part of the Staff Parish Relations Committee hosted ice cream social at 4:30 pm on Sunday, July 15 in the LMR.
